Approx RM1.2mil allocation to buy more beds for Ipoh health complex

IPOH: About RM1.2mil will be allocated to buy more hospital beds for the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital Women, Children and Cardiology Complex, says Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.

He said that he understands that despite having 404 more beds at the complex, it is still not enough.

"The Ministry will approve an allocation of RM1.2mil to get 250 beds," he said at a press conference after the opening of the complex by Perak Ruler Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah here on Tuesday (Feb 6).

"This is so that the complex can operate at full capacity," he said, adding that the hospital currently has about 1,390 beds.

Dr Dzulkefly also said a tender for the upgrade and refurbishment work of the Kuala Kangsar Hospital has started.

"Sultan Nazrin had asked about the project during a brief discussion earlier, and I will follow up on it. We have just started with the tender process," he said.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had during the tabling of the revised Budget 2023 in February last year announced that some RM36.3bil in allocations would be allocated to the health sector.

This includes upgrading and refurbishing several hospitals, including those in Kuala Kangsar, Jelebu and Pontian.
