Bukit Aman nabs five Melaka cops, including two senior officers, for ketum possession


MELAKA: Bukit Aman has arrested two senior police officers and three rank-and-file personnel from here on suspicion of having ketum in their possession.

Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Zainol Samah said all the arrests were made at 11.30pm on Monday (Feb 5) by a Bukit Aman integrity and standards compliance department (JIPS) team.

"A civilian was also detained by JIPS," he said on Tuesday(Feb 6).

DCP Zainol said all of those arrested during a raid at a house in Alor Gajah, are aged between 31 and 55 years old.

He said the detained policemen are attached to the Melaka police headquarters in Bukit Beruang here.

He said several bottles containing ketum, ketum leaves and a set of police uniforms were seized during the raid.

DCP Zainol added that all of those detained will be remanded Tuesday (Feb 6) to assist in investigations under Section 30 (3) of the Poisons Act 1952.

It is learnt that the five policemen may also face disciplinary action or even suspension if found guilty of the offence.
