Five arrested for rioting after fight caught on video

KUALA LUMPUR: Four restaurant workers and a foreigner have been arrested for rioting after they were caught on camera fighting on Jalan Bukit Bintang here.

Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Noor Dellhan Yahaya said police were alerted about the incident after a police report was lodged at 11.50am on Monday (Feb 5).

He said a video of the incident also went viral on social media.

"We opened investigations for rioting under Section 147 of the Penal Code and arrested five individuals, four local men in their 20s and a 33-year-old foreign man.

"Investigations revealed that the incident occurred at around 8.30pm on Sunday," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Feb 6).

He said further checks revealed that the incident was sparked by a misunderstanding between the restaurant's female manager and the foreigner.

"The foreigner allegedly disturbed the woman," he said, adding that the four locals were remanded for one day while the foreigner was remanded for four days.
