IPOH: Perak Ruler Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah has opened the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital Women, Children and Cardiology Complex.
The complex cost about RM237mil and started operations in December 2019; the 10-storey building has 404 beds and 304 parking bays and offers cardiology, pediatric, obstetric and gynaecology services.
These include outpatient treatment, neonatal intensive care, invasive and non-invasive cardiac labs, pediatric intensive care and high dependency units, respiratory haemodynamic unit and a skill laboratory for training.
The building also offers support services like radiology, operating theatres, pharmacy and central sterile supply department.
Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital is among the three biggest hospitals in the country after Kuala Lumpur Hospital and Penang Hospital.
It now has 1,394 beds, 22 operating theatres, 33 intensive care unit beds for adults, 10 beds for the cardiology ward, 12 beds in the pediatric intensive care unit and 24 in the neonatal care unit.
In his speech, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the delay in opening the complex, which was completed on Aug 15, 2019, was due to the challenges faced, including the Covid-19 pandemic.
He said the Health Ministry would always work towards preparing a fair, equitable, sustainable, appropriately-priced and quality health care services to the people, as underlined in the Health White Paper.
"In line with the advancement in healthcare, the government has prepared a lot of facilities to offer the best services that are of international standard," he said.
Also present during the opening ceremony were Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim, Raja Muda Perak Raja Jaafar Raja Muda Musa, Raja DiHilir Perak Raja Iskandar Dzulkarnain Idris Shah, Raja Puan Besar Perak Raja Nazhatul Shima Idris Shah, Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad and Perak Speaker Datuk Mohamad Zahir Abdul Khalid.
