Two Kuala Terengganu cops nabbed over gang robbery


KUALA TERENGGANU: Two policemen with the rank of ASP and a sergeant respectively have been arrested on suspicion of being involved in a robbery.

Terengganu police chief Datuk Mazli Mazlan said that the 36-year-old sergeant was arrested on Saturday (Feb 3) after the police received a report from the victim, a civil servant while the 42-year-old senior officer was arrested the next day.

He said that the 34-year-old victim, in his report, claimed on Feb 1, he was forced by the duo to withdraw RM5,000 from an ATM in a petrol station in Gong Badak, before handing over a total of RM5,150 to them.

According to Mazli, the two suspects were on duty at the Kuala Terengganu district police headquarters and have since been suspended.

He added that the duo were identified as police officers using photo identification and closed circuit television (CCTV) footage.

He said that the sergeant has been remanded for a week and the senior police officer for four under Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang robbery. – Bernama
