Absurd to claim that Taib was abducted, says IGP

KUALA LUMPUR: It is ludicrous to suggest that former Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud was abducted, says Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

The Inspector-General of Police said Taib was at home and his siblings and children could visit him freely.

"He is also being tended to by doctors and nurses. Thus, it is absurd to say that he was abducted or kidnapped," he told a press conference after launching Ops Selamat in conjunction with Chinese New Year here on Wednesday (Feb 7).

The IGP said there were several claims being spread on the matter that were inaccurate.

"They were spread by word of mouth and even on WhatsApp. (These claims were) inaccurate as they did not come officially from the Sarawak police commissioner, the Bukit Aman CID director or even myself," he said.

Subsequently, Taib's wife Toh Puan Raghad Kurdi Taib said her only concern was her husband's wellbeing.

She said news and images circulated on social media about her over the past few days had tarnished her image and reputation.

"I humbly request, please stop all these assumptions and malicious accusations towards me as my priority is only to take care of my husband at this point in time. Please do not believe in any of the rumours being said about me," she said.
