Ban on heavy vehicles during CNY

KAJANG: Heavy vehicles are not allowed to hit the roads for four days during Chinese New Year.

Road Transport Department (JPJ) senior enforcement director Datuk Lokman Jamaan said the ban would take effect on Feb 8, 9, 12 and 13.

He warned that strict action would be taken against any companies or individuals that failed to comply with the ban.

“This road ban is implemented two days before and two days after Chinese New Year to ensure smooth traffic for those who want to return to their hometowns to celebrate the festival as well as school holidays,” he told a media conference after inspecting buses at the Transnasional Express Depot here yesterday, Bernama reported.

On the inspection, Lokman said JPJ had checked 361 buses at 54 depots nationwide since last Saturday.

“Ten buses were issued with notices for violations of technical regulations,” he added.

Lokman said besides inspecting the condition of the buses, the status of summonses involving drivers and bus companies were also checked.
