JOHOR BARU: Consumers will be able to get their hands on state-subsidised goods such as chicken, fish and eggs during the Jualan Kasih Johor programme, says Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

The Mentri Besar said the state government had allocated RM1.3mil to subsidise the goods sold during the programme, held in conjunction with Chinese New Year.

"This is part of the RM5mil that I announced for the Jualan Kasih Johor initiative during the state budget for 2024, with some 800,000 families set to benefit.

"Consumers can get their household needs at a much cheaper price because under the programme, the state government has subsidised fresh chicken at RM6/kg, fish at RM5/kg, a tray of eggs at RM4 and a bottle of cooking oil at RM3.

"On top of the subsidies, some traders further slashed their prices by RM1 to RM2 in hopes of benefitting the B40 and M40 groups," he told reporters after launching the initiative at Taman Johor here on Wednesday (Feb 7).

As a start, the programme is being held at 30 locations statewide until Friday (Feb 9), he said, adding that it would also be held during other festive periods such as Hari Raya and Deepavali.
