Police question minister's driver for allegedly tailgating ambulance

IPOH: Police have questioned the minister's driver who was caught on camera tailgating an ambulance, says Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri.

The Perak police chief said a statement from the driver was taken on Thursday (Feb 8).

"We will be calling other witnesses, getting CCTV from Plus Malaysia Berhad and using the dashcam recording from the ambulance for our investigation," he said in a statement on Thursday.

Comm Mohd Yusri added that the police came across a viral video showing a minister's vehicle tailgating an ambulance on its way to an accident site at KM305 of the North-South Expressway at 10.27am on Feb 3.

He said a police report had been lodged over the incident.

"Our initial investigations found that the driver to a minister was behind the wheel.

"The minister was in the car and they were on their way to attend a charity event at the Jalan Silang flats here.

"However, the minister was unable to attend the event due to traffic congestion caused by the accident," he said.

He said the case is being investigated under Regulation 9(2) of the Road Traffic Procedures 1959.

Comm Mohd Yusri advised the public not to speculate on the matter as the case was still under investigation.

"We also advise the public who witnessed the incident to contact the Ipoh district police Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Chief DSP Koo Boon Huat at 016-417 3222," he said.
