Toll-free travel for private vehicles today and tomorrow

PETALING JAYA: Road users with private vehicles will enjoy toll-free travel on highways today and tomorrow in conjunction with Chinese New Year, says Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

The Works Minister said the Cabinet had decided that toll-free travel for Class 1 (private vehicles) will be implemented on all highways from 12.01am today until 11.59pm tomorrow.

The waiver will be applicable at all toll plazas except for the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar and Tanjung Kupang toll plazas in Johor.

The two days of toll-free travel will have an estimated financial implication of RM42.99mil, he said in a statement yesterday.

“The decision to allow toll-free travel is in line with the unity government’s aspirations to care for the people’s welfare and help alleviate the cost of living,” he said.

It is also the government’s way of joining in the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations, he added.

“It is hoped that road users will use this opportunity to plan their travel. They are also advised to adhere to the travel time advisory,” he said.

He also advised travellers to observe road safety at all times to reach their respective destinations safely and celebrate with their loved ones.

Nanta also reminded travellers to ensure that they have enough balance in their Touch ‘n Go cards and ewallets before heading out.

For updates on traffic status or any incidents, road users planning to embark on their journey can visit the Malaysian Highway Authority’s social media channels.

Alternatively, travellers can also call the Traffic Management Centre at 1800 88 7752 for information or aid.
