Undocumented man nabbed for trying to bribe cop in Sandakan

KOTA KINABALU: An undocumented man has been arrested in Sandakan district after allegedly offering a policeman RM100 to avoid arrest.

According to Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) sources, the suspect was detained to facilitate probes for several offences and allegedly offered the policeman on duty money in exchange for his release.

“The policeman declined the bribe and handed the suspect over to the MACC for further investigation,” the source said on Thursday (Feb 8).

He added that the suspect was detained at the MACC office at around 6pm on Wednesday (Feb 7).

Sabah MACC director Datuk S. Karunanithy confirmed the arrest and said the matter was being investigated as attempted bribery of a civil servant.

He commended the policeman for turning down the offer and urged other enforcement officials and civil servants to emulate this example in carrying out their duties with integrity and honesty.
