Cops probing influencer's claim he was beaten in custody

IPOH: Police are investigating a claim by a social media influencer who said he was beaten and injured while in police custody.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said they had come across a viral video of the influencer who claimed he was beaten during custody, and that he had sustained injuries.

Comm Mohd Yusri said in the video, the influencer had also alleged that the police provided protection to illegal 4D betting syndicates, and that those who provided information on such activities were beaten and brought to court.

“Initial investigations found that the person by the name M. Vikram Naidu had been arrested by the Perak police contingent on Jan 9 after a woman lodged a police report that she had been threatened by six men.

“The woman, in her report, stated that the men had asked for protection money if she did not want any trouble,” he said in a statement Friday (Feb 9).

Comm Mohd Yusri said the investigation paper for that offence had already been opened, and the influencer had been charged in court under Section 385 of the Penal Code on Jan 15.

He said the accused had pleaded not guilty.

“When he was under police custody, he had lodged a police report claiming that he was beaten by the police.

“The police have opened an investigation paper to investigate the claim, and the person was also brought to the hospital to check for injuries,” he said.

He advised the public to not be easily influenced with allegations hurled towards the police, but report any criminal activities via the proper channels.

“Because anything that is not done according to the law by certain parties will only scare the public,” he added.
