Man killed, four injured in accident near Mersing


MERSING: A man was killed and four others injured during a car crash at KM10 Jalan Endau-Mersing.

Mersing OCPD Supt Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani said the accident occurred at 8am on Friday (Feb 9) involving two vehicles.

"Investigations revealed that the accident occurred when a car driven by a 35-year-old man was heading towards Terengganu from Mersing.

"The vehicle had one passenger onboard, and the driver had suddenly lost control of his vehicle and went into the opposite lane.

"It then collided with an incoming vehicle, driven by a 30-year-old man," he said in a statement.

Supt Abdul Razak added that the impact caused the 30-year-old man to suffer a serious injury on the head and was pronounced dead at the location.

"Meanwhile, the driver of the first car suffered a serious injury to his legs and body, while his passenger only suffered a minor injury," he said.

The surviving victims were rushed to Mersing Hospital for treatment.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road and Transport Act of 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving causing death.

Meanwhile, Mersing Fire and Rescue Department operation commander Anuar Hussine said that the deceased was driving with his 11-year-old son who was badly wounded.

"While the 35-year-old man was driving together with a 23-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman.

"The victims were pinned inside their vehicle and were removed using a special tool," he said, adding that the victims had been handed over to the Health Department and the police for further action.
