MELAKA: The outcome of the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA) study is expected to be announced by the end of this year at the latest, said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The Prime Minister said that the time has arrived to expedite the process in order to benefit civil servants.
“There are grievances about (the timeline) of the SSPA study because it has been 12 years, and the salary scales of civil servants have not been reviewed or increased.
“I gave my assurance to look into it last year, and I have reached a stage this year where I expedite the process,” he said when meeting Melaka civil servants at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh here on Friday (Feb 9).
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh was also present at the event.
Anwar said that the process would be expedited and presented to the Cabinet within the next three months.
“We will be able to announce the details then. Hence, the latest we can do so will be in the third or fourth quarter of this year,“ he said.
On Jan 20, the media reported that the Interim Report 1 on the Review of the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA) was submitted to the Prime Minister on Jan 19, said the Public Service Department (PSD).
In a Facebook post on Jan 20, the Public Service Department (PSD) stated that the report was submitted to the Prime Minister by the Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali and PSD director-general Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz, after the SSPA Review main committee meeting, which was chaired by Anwar.
Regarding the meeting, the PSD said the focus was on various initiatives that can contribute towards increasing the disposable income of civil servants.
The Prime Minister, when tabling the 2024 Budget in Parliament on Oct 13 last year, was reported to have announced that the full implementation of the SSPA would begin in 2025.
Accordingly, he said, a comprehensive study on SSPA will be carried out, focusing on increasing the productivity and efficiency of public services.
