IPOH: Police have questioned a minister’s driver who allegedly tailgated an ambulance along the North-South Expressway between Tapah and Simpang Pulai, says the Perak police chief.
Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said a statement was taken from the driver yesterday.
“We will be calling other witnesses and getting a CCTV recording from PLUS as well as the dashcam recording from the ambulance for our investigation,” he said in a statement.
Comm Mohd Yusri added that the police came across the viral posting on social media of a minister’s vehicle tailgating an ambulance on its way to an accident site on KM305 of the North-South Expressway at about 10.27am on Feb 3.
A social media user claimed the incident happened along the expressway between Simpang Pulai and Tapah. Photographs uploaded on X showed an MPV bearing the plate “Menteri”.
Comm Mohd Yusri said a police report was lodged on the incident.
“Initial investigations showed that the vehicle was driven by a man who works as a driver for the minister.
“The minister was inside the car, and they were on their way to attend a charity event at the Jalan Silang flats here.
“However, the minister was unable to attend the event due to traffic congestion caused by the accident,” he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Regulation 9 (2) of the Road Traffic Procedures 1959.
He said witnesses could contact Ipoh Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Chief Dept Supt Koo Boon Huat at 016-417 3222.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said he would provide an explanation on the issue soon.
