Anwar: Govt to focus on peace, culture while strengthening economy

KUALA LUMPUR: In 2024, the country’s economy will be the main focus, but the government will also put more emphasis on ensuring Malaysia’s security, rich culture, and language proficiency among the public, says the Prime Minister.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the three main focuses - peace, culture and language proficiency - are the main ingredients in ensuring the country will always be the first choice for investments by local and foreign investors.

“I suggested 2024 be a strong year for the Madani government, which means we must focus on economic development, investments, and expanding our capability and capacity in all fields.

“This focus (on the economy) has also been endorsed by the cabinet. It is our daily focus to ensure Malaysia will become a great nation in the region because it has the capacity, it is a peaceful country, and we have so many people who are proficient in different languages such as Bahasa, Mandarin, Tamil and others.

“We have such a rich culture. These are our sources of strength to attract investments.

“This year, we will also focus on quality education, better health services and the fundamental focus on economic success and development through investments and policies that can attract domestic and foreign investments,” he said.

Anwar said this in his speech during the Kuala Lumpur Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (KLSCAH) open house on Saturday (Feb 10).

Amanah President Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, and Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing were also present.

While wishing attendees a happy Chinese New Year, Anwar called on all segments of society to focus on their similarities with Malaysians of other races.

“Although today’s celebration is for the Chinese community, in Malaysia, the Malays and Indians will also celebrate the festive seasons of other cultures.

“This is the strength of Malaysia. We must protect this country and increase our success so that we will be great again in this region,” he added.
