Investigation into toddler's abuse at Semenyih nursery started before video went viral, say cops

KAJANG: Police investigations into an alleged child abuse case in Semenyih had already begun before the video of the incident had gone viral, says the police.

In a statement on Saturday (Feb 10), Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zaid Hassan said that the video, which started making its rounds on social media on Feb 8, was already being investigated following a report lodged on Jan 27.

The report stated that the complainant had noticed bruises on her 11-month-old daughter on Jan 24 after picking her up from the Semenyih-based nursery.

"CCTV footage at the premises showed that the victim had fallen off a baby chair. The complainant also stated that she had received numerous videos from an unknown person showing alleged child abuse towards the child by caretakers there.

"The child has been sent to the Kajang hospital for a physical examination where it was found that she suffered 'soft tissue injury'," he said.

Following that, a police team arrested two women, both aged 22 years old, on Jan 29. They were workers of the nursery.

"Both have been granted bail after their statements were recorded and investigations were conducted.

"Further investigations are still being conducted before the investigation paper can be referred to the deputy prosecutor's office for further advice," he said.
