KUALA LUMPUR: Police have started investigating threats against Lawyer Nik Elin Zurina Nik Abdul Rashid.

In a statement on Sunday (Feb 11), City police chief Comm Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid confirmed that the lawyer had lodged three reports regarding the death threats that she received after the Federal Court challenge that nullified 16 provisions in Kelantan's syariah criminal laws.

"One investigation paper has been referred to the Attorney General's office for further instruction while investigations are still open for the remaining two.

"The police have requested assistance from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to identify account owners of the social media pages involved," he said.

Investigations are ongoing, including for Criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication under Section 507 of the Penal Code.

Comm Allaudeen urged everyone to refrain from uttering threats on social media, adding that action would be taken against those who chose to do so.
