More than 90,000 Indonesians in Johor expected to cast votes in republic's general election


JOHOR BARU: A total of 119,491 Indonesians living in Johor, Melaka, Negri Sembilan and Pahang are expected to cast their votes for the republic's general election here.

Indonesian Consul-General in Johor Baru overseas election committee chief Ardiyanshah Syahrom said from the number, some 90,666 of them are from Johor alone.

"Indonesian citizens living in the four states are under the purview of the Consul-General of the Republic of Indonesia in Johor Baru. As such, they will be casting their votes through this Consul-General's office.

"Apart from casting their votes here, we have also deployed ballot drop boxes to community areas and companies with a large number of Indonesians.

"Between Monday (Feb 5) and Friday (Feb 9), we have received votes from some 55,000 citizens through the drop box method," he told reporters when met at the Consul-General's office here.

He said that the ballot drop boxes are still making their rounds in the four states and will be sent back to the consul-general's office here by Monday (Feb 12).

"Today (Feb 11) is the last day for votes to be collected through the election boxes.

"We are also expecting some 2,680 voters to make their way here to cast their votes. As of 11am, about 500 people had already cast their votes," he said.

He added that some 1,364 people will be counting the votes on Feb 14, which is polling day in Indonesia.
