Thousands throng Penang CM's Chinese New Year open house


GEORGE TOWN: Thousands thronged Setia SPICE Arena to attend Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow's Chinese New Year open house.

The attendees of various races come in droves with their family and friends to celebrate the festivities.

Some of them arrived from as early as 1pm on Sunday (Feb 11) for the event held from 2pm to 4pm.

Among the main guests were Human Resource Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong and Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying.

Other guests including politicians and state leaders also turned up at the event to usher in the Year of Dragon.

The open house was also attended by Penang Governor Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak and his wife who arrived at about 2.30pm, where they were greeted by Chow and other state leaders.

Ahmad Fuzi and his wife were then ushered to the front of the stage for the "yee sang" tossing ceremony with Chow and other state leaders, ushering in a prosperous new year.

Guests, including tourists, were treated to a sumptuous spread of local fare like char kuey teow, mee goreng, satay, fried rice and others.

Visitors were also entertained by various cultural performances, lion and dragon dances, as well as performances by local artistes.
