AN 18-year-old boy in China’s Hubei province suffered head injuries after he was beaten by his father for refusing to extend New Year wishes to his stepmother.
Sin Chew Daily reported that the boy was rushed to the hospital on the first day of the Lunar New Year.
He has since been discharged.
The boy’s biological mother, who had divorced her husband four years ago, said her son had refused to visit his stepmother that day.
She said her ex-husband then came over to her house to rough up their son, who was staying with her then.
“We called the police but to prevent him from having a criminal record, my son had no choice but to forgive him,” she was quoted by the daily.
Her ex-husband is a primary school teacher.
Local police confirmed that the two parties had reached a settlement on the second day of the Lunar New Year.
China Press reported that the incident had drawn attention on the social media platform Weibo, with netizens scolding the father for his behaviour.
“This kind of teacher should be expelled from the school, right?” someone said.
> The daily also reported that Taiwanese actress Joe Chen, 44, was seen at her husband’s hometown in Malaysia for the Chinese New Year celebration.
She and her husband Alan Chen, 35, took photos with the background of a dragon dance performance in Johor Baru.
Besides eating dumplings and other New Year dishes with her husband’s family, Joe also tasted other local food.
