Korean tourist found dead in resort off KK

KOTA KINABALU: A South Korean tourist was found dead in the bathroom of a resort at Gaya Island, some 15-minute boat ride from here on Tuesday morning (Feb 13).

The 53-year-old man was found hanged in the shower at about 7am.

It was understood that the victim had checked into the resort with his family the night before.

Acting City Police Chief Supt Kalsom Idris said the resort staff was alerted to the incident after hearing screams by the man’s family members, who found the victim unconscious.

“We found out that the man had taken two rooms, with the children occupying one of them and the victim and his wife in the other,” she said, in a statement.

"The wife said that, before the incident, she and the husband had a quarrel and decided that she would sleep in with the children while the man slept in their room alone,” she added.

She said that the next morning, the wife asked their eldest child to wake the father up for breakfast at 7 a.m.

Supt Kalsom said the victim was brought down from the shower following the discovery.

"The victim’s body has been sent to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital 1 (QEH1) for a post-mortem to ascertain the cause of death,” she said.

She urged those with information about the incident to assist the police with the investigations.

The public may contact the investigating officer, Asst Supt Riduan Abdollah, at 0113-3695884.
