Wisma Putra decries Israeli aggression, urges action

PETALING JAYA: As the war in Gaza continues to claim lives, Malaysia says the Israeli regime must immediately stop the killing and displacing of Palestinians and abide by its obligations under international law.

The Foreign Ministry said the international community must not let the belligerent act of one of its members continue with impunity, adding that they must suspend their support for Israel.

Wisma Putra also expressed Malaysia’s support and solidarity with the Palestinian people and condemned Israel’s large-scale offensive in Rafah “in the strongest terms”.

“This dastardly military operation clearly underscores the key goal of the Zionist regime to annihilate the Palestinians from their own land.

“It again demonstrates their blatant disregard of fundamental principles of international law and a clear contempt of the rulings by the International Court of Justice on Jan 26, 2024, on the six provisional measures.

“In this regard, Malaysia echoes the calls by the United Nations secretary-general for an immediate halt to the vile plan and urges the United Nations Security Council to take swift and decisive action to stop the massacre being perpetrated by the Zionist regime.

“This includes compelling responsible members of the international community to suspend support to the regime,” it said in a statement yesterday.

“The irresponsible, illegal and inhumane assault on Rafah will worsen the current humanitarian catastrophe, exacerbate tension in the region and further derail efforts towards immediate cessation of hostilities and permanent ceasefire,” it added.

Israel’s military said early yesterday that it had carried out a “wave of attacks” on the Gazan city of Rafah, the New York Times reported.

The latest strike fuelled fear and panic among over a million Palestinians who had crowded into Gaza’s southernmost city, seeking refuge from Israeli military actions farther north.
