PUTRAJAYA: Work to implement a seamless immigration entry system for the Johor Baru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link project must start now in order to hit its 2027 launch target, says the Home Minister.
Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution, in his speech during a monthly meeting at the ministry headquarters, said that work for a proposed one-entry point system must begin immediately to prevent huge problems in the future.
“It is estimated that 10,000 passengers can be ferried in an hour. And the challenge falls onto the Immigration Department.
“If our system is not robust enough, it will lead to catastrophic congestions,” he said.
The minister noted that most would be repeat users and that systems such as facial scanning or biometrics would be more suited and faster than traditional passport stamping.
“I was told that 90% (of those crossing the borders) are the same people. So, it is a given that the public will greatly appreciate this facial recognition system that we are proposing.
“They just have to register beforehand, and their back-and-forth travel would be seamless,” he said.
