Farmer charged with murder for setting wife on fire in tapai-fuelled rage


KOTA KINABALU: A 50-year-old farmer, who allegedly set his wife on fire during a drinking session in Sabah's interior Sook, has been charged with murder.

Patersius Juliteh @ Julit was charged under Section 302 of the Penal at the Keningau Sessions Court on Thursday (Feb 15) for the murder of his 41-year-old wife Sansiah Tinggian at their house in Kg Tingalan in Sook at 11pm on Feb 2.

No plea was recorded before Sessions Court Judge Marlina Ibrahim who set March 14 for the case to be mentioned.

It reported earlier, that the woman died from the burns at the Keningau hospital on Feb 3, 16-hours after she was set on fire during an argument while they were drinking tapai at their house in Sook about 150km from the state capital.

Keningau OCPD Supt Yampil Anak Garai said the couple’s 16-year-old daughter who was in the house managed to save her younger siblings from the fire that razed their wooden home.
