Odd-job worker charged with raping 15-year-old daughter in Melaka


MELAKA: An odd-job worker has been slapped with six charges of raping his daughter, sexual abuse and criminal intimidation.

The accused claimed trial to the charges at the Sessions Court in Ayer Keroh here on Friday (Feb 16), after they were read to him before judge Azaraorni Abd Rahman.

Based on the charge sheet, the accused had allegedly raped and impregnated his 15-year-old daughter.

The rape charge was framed under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of 30 years and 10 strokes of the cane upon conviction.

He was also charged with physical sexual assault on the same victim under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping upon conviction.

The accused, a father of two, also faced another charge of attacking and injuring his wife with a machete under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of 20 years, fine or whipping if found guilty.

The accused was also charged with two counts of criminal intimidation against his wife and children by wielding a machete. He allegedly threatened his 18-year-old son and his daughter, who is now 16.

He faces two charges under Section 506 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to seven years, or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

The offences were allegedly committed at a house in Durian Tunggal, Alor Gajah district between June and October.

Prosecution was conducted by DPP Rashidah Baharom.

No bail was granted and the court fixed March 18 as the next mention date for the accused to appoint counsel.
