Sentul cops rescue kidnap victim, five suspects nabbed


KUALA LUMPUR: A mechanic's wife has been rescued after being kidnapped and held for RM100,000 ransom, with most of her abductors now in custody.

Police said the suspects claimed that a friend of the mechanic owed them the cash for a drug deal.

Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari said the woman was grabbed in front of a sundry shop along Jalan Sentul at around 5pm on Monday (Feb 12).

"The woman's 30-year-old husband lodged a report on the day of the incident.

"According to witnesses, four individuals including a woman were seen bundling the victim, who worked at the sundry shop, into a car.

"We began investigating and raided two locations in Bukit Damansara and Sentul at around 3pm the next day. We arrested four men and a woman aged between 25 and 31," he told reporters on Friday (Feb 16).

He said police rescued the victim 10 hours after she was kidnapped.

"She did not suffer any injuries during her ordeal.

"Our checks revealed that the complainant was ordered to pay a RM100,000 debt incurred by one of his friends over a drug deal," he said.

It is learnt the complainant paid RM45,000 to the suspects before they were arrested.

ACP Ahmad Sukarno said police were now looking for one Mohd Daniel Harris Azmi, 26.

"His last known address is in Sungai Petani, Kedah.

"All the suspects (arrested) have records for criminal and drug offences," he added.
