SHAH ALAM: The ammonia leak at a factory here that led to dozens being rushed to the hospital for treatment was caused by a forklift that ruptured an ammonia tank.
When contacted on Friday (Feb 16), Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said their investigations showed that a forklift had collided with an ammonia tank at around 11.30am on Friday.
Works to move the tanks were being conducted at the time of the accident.

"The current total of victims suffering from breathing difficulties from the accident is currently at 33 people; 14 workers from the affected factory and 19 workers from a nearby factory.
"All have been sent to the hospital to receive treatment and are in stable conditions.
"The situation at the scene is under control. The factory management has contacted a vendor to fix the affected valve," he said.
Earlier on Friday, an ammonia leak at a factory in Seksyen 7 here led the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department to dispatch their Hazardous Chemicals Special Team (Hazmat).
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (Operations) Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar said earlier that the department received an emergency call regarding the incident, and found that there was a leak of ammonia gas from the valve of a gas storage tank.
