Unhappy with RM5 angpow from Julau MP, four men arrested after issuing threats


SIBU: Four men have been arrested for alleged criminal intimidation after they were said to be unhappy with a RM5 angpow given to them by their local MP.

This allegedly happened when Julau MP Datuk Larry Sng Wei Shien visited the Pakan area in conjunction with Chinese New Year on Feb 11.

Julau OCPD Deputy Supt Andam Sulin said the suspects, aged from 32 to 53, were detained at 6pm on Monday (Feb 12).

"Based on the police report form the complainant, the four men expressed dissatisfaction with the amount given in the angpow and harassed the complainant's workers," he said in a statement on Friday (Feb 16).

The four suspects have been remanded for three days for investigation under Section 506 of the Penal Code.

Sng, in a previous Facebook post had called on the police to come down hard on gangsterism in Julau and Pakan.
