Van driver nabbed for blocking ambulance in Johor

PASIR GUDANG: A 38-year-old van driver was arrested for refusing to give way to an ambulance at the Pasir Gudang Highway here.

Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said police came across a video of the incident that was posted on Facebook at 3.30pm on Saturday (Feb 17).

“Based on the footage, the incident occurred at 10.17am and showed a white van blocking an ambulance in the right lane at KM14 Pasir Gudang Highway.

“The vehicle has also ignored the ambulance even though the siren and signal lights were turned on, forcing the ambulance to cut the vehicle off using the left lane,” he said in a statement here.

The man was arrested to help with an investigation under Rule 9 of the Road Traffic Rules 166/59 and Section 56(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for not having a vocational licence (GDL) to drive a goods vehicle.

A background check also revealed that the man has seven outstanding traffic summonses and no priors, he added.

Earlier, a 47-second video was posted on the JB Tracer II group showing a white van blocking an ambulance in the right lane.
