Education key to developing Special Economic Zone in Johor, says Dr Wee

LABIS: The hope of elevating the state’s education sector to greater heights rests in the newly minted Johor education and information committee chairman Aznan Tamin, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The MCA president said that education is very important for Johor, especially as the state is working towards developing the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) with Singapore.

“When you want to develop this SEZ, you must have talents. This includes formal and tertiary education, vocational training, and job skills.

“Education is very important to ensure that we have sufficient manpower, especially with the exchange rate of the ringgit to Singapore dollar now more than 3.5.

“That is the biggest challenge, as the exchange rate is very attractive to Malaysian workers,” said Dr Wee after the Johor MCA Chinese New Year celebration here on Sunday (Feb 18).

The Ayer Hitam MP also said that he believes Aznan, who is a Tanjung Surat assemblyman, could carry out his duties well.

"I have full confidence in him, and I hope that he can bring the education sector to greater heights," he said when asked about the new state executive councillor.

Aznan was among dozens who attended the Chinese New Year celebration here.

Also present was Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, state health and environment committee chairman Ling Tian Soon, who is also MCA national youth chief as well as state investment, trade, consumer affairs and human resource committee chairman Lee Ting Han.
