Commotion erupts at popular Melaka theme park over one-day free entrance

MELAKA: A commotion erupted at a popular theme park in Ayer Keroh here after a large crowd took advantage of the one-day free entrance offered by the state government.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Christopher Patit said the overcrowding at the entry point of the theme park triggered the incident between 10.30am to 11am on Tuesday (Feb 20).

He said the crowd started shoving each other to gain entry into the theme park when the verbal alterations sparked between the visitors.

"However, the theme park’s management team managed to quell the situation and police also dispatched men to the site to prevent untoward incidents," he said on Tuesday.

CEO of Melaka Wonderland Theme Park Seow Cheng Swee said close to 7,000 visitors were registered between 10am to 4pm on Tuesday.

"This is the first time we have handled such a massive amount of people in a single day," he added.

Seow said his staff managed to control the situation and made sure everyone was able to enter.

The state government has waived entrance fees to 10 tourist attractions, services as well as green fees for five golf clubs would be waived on Feb 20 to commemorate the Declaration of Independence of the Federation of Malaya.
