Higher Education Ministry to refine proposal to create white paper on Islamic economy

KUALA LUMPUR: The Higher Education Ministry will review and improve a proposal to create a white paper based on discussions from the International Conference on Islamic Financial Economics (ICIEF) regarding Islamic economics and finance, says its minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.

“The ministry will refine the proposal for government consideration, focusing on developing a new economic model centered on a sustainable humane economy.

“ICIEF's white paper is one of the proposals, but its structure and contribution to forming a new economic capital has to be examined beforehand.

"Before making any further decisions, the ministry will review the content and its proposed suggestions to determine whether to proceed with a white paper or otherwise,” he said after the 15th ICIEF conference here on Thursday (Feb 22).

Over 600 participants from 50 countries, including academics, professionals, and experts in Islamic economics and finance, attended the 3-day conference with the theme "Driving the Agenda for a Sustainable Humane Economy".

It was held with the objective of focusing on strategies and steps forward to develop a more integrated, sustainable and humane economy and finance ecosystem.

Zambry also said his ministry will keep backing collaborative research, especially in Islamic and social economies, which may be overlooked by the banking industry.
