PETALING JAYA: The post-mortem on the victim who was allegedly beaten to death following an accident in Taman Pelangi Semenyih 2 in Kajang came back positive for drugs, says Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan.
“The post-mortem revealed that the victim tested positive for ganja and methamphetamine,” he said, adding that the 42-year-old victim also had 10 prior drug-related offences.
Comm Hussein said the post-mortem, however, did not reveal clear injuries that could be determined as the cause of death.
“It will require further analysis by the pathologists and assistance from the Chemistry Department to uncover the cause of death,” he added.
Comm Hussein said two more suspects, aged 40 and 23, were detained in connection with the death, bringing the total of those arrested to seven.
“We are still investigating the motive,” he told a press conference after witnessing the handing over ceremony for the Petaling Jaya OCPD post yesterday.
Initial investigations revealed that the victim was involved in an accident before he was allegedly assaulted, he added.
“We are aware of several videos that have gone viral on the incident and we urge the public not to speculate or make up stories that could disrupt the investigation and cause public distress. Let the police investigate based on facts,” he said.
It was previously reported that five men were detained for allegedly beating up a man following an accident in Taman Pelangi Semenyih 2 at 9.20pm on Tuesday.
It is learnt that the 42-year-old victim had initially sped away from the accident before a group of men caught up with him.
The initial probe revealed that the driver of the car had rammed into the gates at a residential area.
Meanwhile, Asst Comm Shahrulnizam Jaa’far @ Ismail is the new Petaling Jaya police chief, taking over from outgoing ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid.
ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin said it was an honour to have led the district police for almost three years.
“It was a valuable experience these two years and 10 months. I carried out my responsibilities to the best of my ability and with the support from everyone at the district as well as the leadership at Selangor police headquarters,” he said in his farewell speech.
Separately, ACP Shahrulnizam said he was committed to working hard to ensure the safety of PJ folk.
“I have big shoes to fill. I take it as a challenge for me to live up to the past achievements.
“I will do my best, especially in ensuring good governance as well as forging closer ties with the community,” he added.
