PM hopes for better cooperation among all parties during this Parliament meeting

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim hoped that the latest Parliament session would see better cooperation among all parties in the interest of the country and the people.

In a posting, the Prime Minister said together with his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, had attended the first Meeting of the Third Session of the 15th Parliament on Monday (Jan 26), which was officiated by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.

"May this meeting further strengthen the cooperation between all parties in unity and cooperate closely for the country's development in the interest of the country and the people," Anwar said in a posting today.

This is His Majesty's first time opening the Dewan Rakyat since being appointed as the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong in January this year.

Also present was Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia.

His Majesty's arrival in Parliament was welcomed by the Prime Minister, both Deputy Prime Ministers Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Johari Abdul, as well as Dewan Negara President Datuk Mutang Tagal.

In a separate statement, Ahmad Zahid assured that the government would give its highest commitment for the first meeting of the Third Session of the 15th Parliament.

Ahmad Zahid, also Rural and Regional Development Minister, said the government MPs were fully ready to participate in a royal debate following the address given by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, during today's opening ceremony.

"Together with the Prime Minister and government MPs, we are fully prepared for the royal address debate, which commences tomorrow and will provide a high commitment to this Parliament session, God willing," he said.
