Boy found drowned in Keningau river


KOTA KINABALU: The body of a 13-year-old boy who went missing during an outing with friends at a river in Keningau was found on Monday (Feb 26) night.

Civilian members of the search and rescue (SAR) operation found the remains of Aloysius Alfred about 500m from where he was last seen at the river in Kampung Panagatan.

The SAR operation was mounted after the teen was reported missing at 5.50pm while he was swimming with four friends, aged eight to 13, with one of the boy's 74-year-old grandfather accompanying them.

A 10-year-old boy in the group was almost swept away by strong currents but rescued by his grandfather.

“Aloysius was confirmed dead at the scene," a spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department said Tuesday (Feb 27).

"His body was handed over to police for further action and the operation ended at 10pm."
