PETALING JAYA: Pokok Sena in Kedah continues to be under Level 2 heatwave alert in an advisory issued by the Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
Under Level 2, daily temperatures can hover between 37 degrees Celcius and 40 degrees Celcius for at least three days in a row.
According to MetMalaysia, a total of 19 places in the country are also under Level 1 heatwave alert as of Feb 28.
The places are Perlis, Langkawi, Kota Setar, Yan, Pendang, Kubang Pasu, Padang Terap, Sik and Baling in Kedah, North and Central Seberang Perai, and Northeast and South West districts in Penang, Kerian, Larut Matang and Kuala Kangsar in Perak, Sepang in Selangor, Beaufort in Sabah and Limbang in Selangor.
A Level 1, alert is issued when temperatures at a location are between 35°C and 37°C for three consecutive days.
Malaysia's hot and dry season began early this year compared to the past two years, due to the ongoing El Nino weather phenomenon.
The country, particularly the northern part of Peninsular Malaysia, was seeing the end of the northeast monsoon in March.
