Motorist dies in crash on NSE, baby among six others hurt

BATU PAHAT: A businessman was killed while six of his family members, including a seven-month-old baby, were injured when their multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) was involved in an accident at KM112.6 of the North-South Expressway here.

Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Ismail Dollah said police were informed of the incident, which happened between Yong Peng and Pagoh southbound, at 8.55pm on Sunday night(March 3).

“The incident is believed to have occurred when the MPV driver Ng Chee Keong, 40, who was driving from Genting Highlands to Endau, suddenly suffered a seizure.

“This caused him to lose control of his vehicle, which hit the road shoulder and overturned. The driver died at the scene from a severe head injury,” he said here on Monday (March 4).

ACP Ismail said there were six passengers, including the victim’s 31-year-old wife, his 55-year-old mother-in-law, three children between six and 14 years old, as well as the baby.

“All of them suffered minor injuries and were treated at Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail here,” he said.

He added that the case was being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
