Four seasoned criminals nabbed after RM92,000 heist from Putatan supermarket


KOTA KINABALU: Four men who in total have 49 convictions for various offences have been arrested over a break-in at a Putatan supermarket near here.

A supermarket staff member lodged a report after discovering the store's safe was pried open with cash and valuables worth RM92,000 missing at about 9.30am on Sunday (March 3).

Sabah Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief Asst Comm Azmi Abd Rahim said police detained the four suspects, aged between 22 and 45, in separate raids here and Putatan the following day.

He said the two men aged 35 and 45 were nabbed in an operation at Kampung Tampulan, Manggatal near here.

"The two had 29 housebreaking and drug offences between them," he said on Tuesday (March 5).

Police later stormed another house in Kampung Petagas, Putatan and nabbed the third suspect aged 42, who had a record of 12 crimes.

The fourth suspect, aged 22, was detained in Inanam and had a record of eight crimes.

"All four suspects had previously been jailed several times," he said, adding that investigations will be carried out under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking.

He said police were also tracking down other members of the gang.
