Cops bust drug ring, seize over 18.56kg of ganja


KUALA LUMPUR: A drug distribution syndicate has been crippled with the seizure of over 18.56kg of ganja and arrest of 12 individuals here.

Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari said initially, police had raided a hotel at Batu Caves on Feb 26 and arrested one man and seized over 3.4kg of compressed dried leaves believed to be ganja.

"We interrogated the suspect which led to the arrest of four more men and five women and seized over 6.67kg of ganja following a raid at a condominium unit at Gombak on the same day.

"The next day, based on intelligence received, we arrested another man near a condominium at Sentul and seized 276.5g of ganja," he told reporters on Thursday (March 7).

He said on March 2, police conducted an operations near a condominium at Sentul Selatan and arrested another man and seized eight packets containing 8.21kg of ganja.

"The packets also had the Batman symbol and VIP on it.

"Our intelligence revealed that the suspect received the drugs from a supplier from the East Coast.

"We believe this syndicate has been active for between three and nine months," he said, adding that the drugs were meant to be distributed in the southern region.

He said the 12 individuals caught acted as runners for the drug syndicate.

"In total, we seized 18.56kg of drugs worth RM68,375.

"We are now working on identifying the remaining members of the syndicate and the drug supplier," he said.
