KUALA LUMPUR: Disciplinary action has been taken against 1,238 police officers last year alone, the Dewan Rakyat was told.
The Home Ministry said that out of the figure, 1,112 were low-ranking police officers and 126 were senior police officers.
In a Parliamentary written reply dated Wednesday (March 6), the Home Ministry said the five categories of offence were crime, corruption, syariah, drugs and integrity.
“Integrity offences were misdemeanour offences such as disobeying orders, deceiving superiors, not showing up for duty and among others,” said the Home Ministry.
The Home Ministry was responding to Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz (PN-Tanah Merah) who asked to state the figures on police officers who were subjected to disciplinary action including dismissal and what the offence was.
Meanwhile, in another Parliamentary written reply, the Home Ministry said there are 1,387 police officers in Klang.
The Klang Utara police headquarters has a workforce of 622 consisting of 55 officers and 567 rank-and-file personnel.
There are 765 individuals at the Klang Selatan police headquarters, consisting of 76 officers and 689 rank-and-file personnel.
The Home Ministry was responding to Dr Halimah Ali (PN-Kapar) about the number of police officers stationed in Klang following a surge in crime cases such as robberies and car break-ins.
