Over 400 people arrested for drug offences during statewide ops in Johor


JOHOR BARU: More than 400 people, including 14 foreigners, have been arrested for various drug offences in a statewide operation here.

Johor police chief Comm M. Kumar said Ops Tapis was held between Monday (March 4) and Wednesday (March 6) across various drug hotspot locations in the state.

"Of the 524 people checked during the operation, 432 were found to have committed drug offences.

"A total of 308 of the suspects were arrested for drug addiction, 72 for drug possession, and 52 for supplying drugs," he said, adding that the suspects are between 18 and 71 years old.

He said this at a press conference at the Johor police headquarters here on Thursday (March 7).

Comm Kumar said that drug hotspots in the state include Felda settlements, low-cost housing areas and fishing jetties.

He said that 54 of the suspects are also wanted people, while 38 were repeat offenders who would have actions taken against them under Section 39C of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

"We have also seized RM571,793 worth of drugs, including syabu, ecstasy powder and pills, heroin, cannabis, Erimin 5 pills, ketamine, Yaba pills, as well as ketum leaves and juice.

"Also seized were RM472,468 worth of assets, including 10 cars, jewellery and cash," he said

Comm Kumar added that Johor police seized 1.25 tonnes of drugs worth RM7.61mil and RM4.19mil of assets between Jan 1 and March 6 this year.
