Over RM1mil of drugs seized in six raids in Johor


JOHOR BARU: More than RM1mil worth of drugs and assets were seized by the police in a six-raid operation here.

Johor police chief Comm M. Kumar said that two foreigners and four locals were arrested in the operation on Monday (March 4) and Tuesday (March 5) in the Johor Baru and Seri Alam area.

“The syndicate is believed to have been active since last December and has been hiding by using gated-and-guarded condominium units as stores before distributing the drugs to the local market," said Comm Kumar.

“Of the six raids launched during the operation, five were on condominium units while one involved a house in a gated-and-guarded area,” he added at a press conference on Thursday (March 5).

He said three of the suspects also tested positive for ketamine and methamphetamine, while one is a wanted person.

“The suspects arrested are aged between 22 and 39 years and include the mastermind of the syndicate,” he said, adding they are being remanded for seven days starting from Tuesday.

Comm Kumar said that a total of RM510,628 worth of drugs which could supply 22,969 people was seized in the operation.

“The drugs seized include 5,772g of ecstasy powder, 206.65g of ecstasy pills, 267.60g of Erimin 5 pills, 288.40g of ketamine, 127.5g of syabu, and 88.20g of cannabis," he said.

“We have also seized six cars worth RM405,000, gold jewellery worth RM127,924, and cash worth RM98,000,” added Comm Kumar.

He then said that the total value of drugs and assets seized amounts to RM1.14mil.

Comm Kumar said that the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides the death penalty or life imprisonment and whipping upon conviction.

He also said that the two foreigners will also be investigated under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
