Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah ends tenure as MKI chairman


PETALING JAYA: Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has ended his tenure as the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs (MKI) chairman.

In a post on the Selangor Royal Office Facebook page, the Selangor Ruler expressed his appreciation for the cooperation given by the MKI committee and secretariat members throughout His Royal Highness' tenure as MKI chairman.

"During the last meeting, His Royal Highness expressed appreciation for the cooperation provided by the committee members and the secretariat during the Selangor Ruler's time as its chairman," read the statement that was posted on Thursday (March 7)

Sultan Sharafuddin also emphasised that during his tenure as the MKI chairman, it had always been His Royal Highness' duty to uphold and defend the principles of Islam in all of its decisions which were made through consultation.

Sultan Sharafuddin also noted that he would leave it to the Conference of Rulers to choose a new chairman for the MKI among the Malay Rulers.

Sultan Sharafuddin has been the chairman of MKI from March 10, 2022 to March 9 this year.

His Royal Highness also reviewed all previous meeting minutes and ensured that the special committee to study the competency of State Legislative Assemblies to enact Islamic laws, had been formed, and implemented all of its relevant tasks.

Tuanku also expressed gratitude for the commitment shown by the council members, state representatives and Jakim, as the secretariat, in carrying out their duties effectively which enabled the MKI meeting to run smoothly.
