KOTA KINABALU: Traders in the city have been warned that their licences will be revoked if they are found to be selling unclean food in the coming Ramadan month.
Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah said food operators must ensure all health and safety aspects are adhered to, including obtaining typhoid vaccination.
“They must comply with the rules of waste and garbage disposal.
“This year, there will be 1,280 lots available for traders in 15 areas around the city. Our personnel will check on these bazaars every day,” said Sabin on the sidelines of the Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) Women’s Day 2024 event here yesterday.
He said that if traders are found to be selling expired or filthy food, their licences will be cancelled immediately.
On women empowerment, the mayor said DBKK has always given priority to women in the workforce, with almost 43% of its staff comprising women.
He said women also stand as much of a chance as their male colleagues to assume higher positions.
“This was proven before with the appointment of the first woman mayor (Datuk Noorliza Awang Alip) as well as women holding the director-general position (Junainah Abbie) and being heads of departments in DBKK,” he said.
Sabin said DBKK actually does not look at gender when considering promotions of its staff.
“We will look at their capabilities, especially for the higher positions, and whether they can bring effective leadership to the DBKK workforce,” he said.
