KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional wants to hold a nationwide tour to learn about the woes and concerns of the people, says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The Perikatan chairman said the "Jelajah PN" tour will start after the fasting month.

"The tour will highlight various issues affecting the people and to hear their worries and concerns.

"It will also show them our responsibilities and the role we can play to assist them," he said in a press conference after the closing ceremony of the 2024 Perikatan Representatives Convention in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday (March 9).

Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman is also expected to join the tour as an "ally to the coalition" but the Muar MP could not be reached for comment on his supposed participation.

In a separate matter, Muhyiddin during his closing speech said Perikatan needed to beef up its strategy to attract non-Malays.

"I have discussed with (Gerakan president Datuk Dr) Dominic (Lau), on strategies to increase the support of non-Malays.

"We need to have a new image and new approaches that will increase their confidence and support towards Perikatan; what are the main issues that interest them and make them understand how the coalition works," he said.

Muhyiddin said it was important to ensure support from all races.

He also said there was interest from Malaysian Indian People's Party (MIPP) president P. Punithan for the party to join the coalition.

"We met and he asked to consider MIPP to be accepted as a full member of Perikatan.

"I told him to be patient, strengthen his position and increase their members, branches and divisions to a point where they can attract the support of the Indian community. We are willing to consider their application to show that Perikatan is an inclusive party," he said.
