We need to do more to improve public's trust in cops, says Bukit Aman CID director

KUALA LUMPUR: Police must do all they can to improve the public's trust in the police, says Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain.

The Bukit Aman CID director said that this is especially so for those in the CID, adding that protecting the confidentiality of those who lodged police reports should be a priority.

"I am aware that there have been shortcomings on our part (in protecting the confidentiality of complainants). I will look into the matter, and so will my deputies as well as all the state and district CID chiefs," said Comm Mohd Shuhaily.

Speaking after a dialogue session with the public at Taman Tun Dr Ismail on Saturday (March 9), he added that the sensitivity of an investigation must be a priority for the CID.

Comm Mohd Shuhaily was responding to an issue raised by a member of the audience on the identities of those who lodge reports being leaked to suspects.

Meanwhile, on his hopes for the KL CID, Comm Mohd Shuhaily said its officers must be highly motivated, dedicated and with adequate knowledge.

"The spectrum of people in KL is very big, thus investigators cannot treat every case the same way. They must be attentive to the victims and the case.

"All elements of the CID in the KL contingent must be the best of the best as they will inspire other CIDs in other states," he said.

Comm Mohd Shuhaily also showed his confidence in deputy CID director Datuk Rusdi Mohd ISA, who will be the next KL police chief.

"Given his experience in handling high-profile cases, KL will be led by a capable police chief," he said.

He added that this is the second dialogue session, the first was held in Klang.

"We had non-stop engagement from 9.30am till 1.15pm We will expand it to other states as such sessions are fruitful in forging closer ties between the public and police," he said.
