Penang Council seizes 28 e-scooters at Lebuh Armenian

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Island City Council (MBPP) seized 28 e-scooters from a business premise at Lebuh Armenian here on Sunday.

In a statement on Sunday (March 10), the council said its licencing department and enforcement team had conducted surveillance before raiding the premises at about 11am.

"The establishment was found to be offering micro-mobility vehicle rentals while masquerading as a bicycle rental shop.

"Before the raid was conducted, an e-scooter collided with a car in a minor accident and several e-scooters were observed being ridden recklessly on the road, which was crowded with vehicles,” read the statement.

According to the statement, the rental service operator also failed to enforce strict controls and refused to accept responsibility for the e-scooters used by customers. - Bernama
