IPOH: A 28-year-old man has been arrested in front of an entertainment outlet in Sitiawan with a variety of drugs in his car.
Following the arrest, a total of 152 people inside the outlet were also detained on suspicion of consuming drugs.
Several foreign women believed to be working as guest relation officers without valid permits were also arrested.
Perak police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said a team from the state contingent's Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department arrested the first suspect at 12.35am on Sunday (March 10).
Checks of his car found five red plastic packets containing 54.5g of substances believed to be drug-laced juice.
“There was also a black plastic packet with the wording 'Keep Calm' (and a rude gesture) also containing drug-laced juice weighing 31.3g," he said in a statement on Monday (March 11).
He added that police also seized nine transparent plastic bags containing a total of 14g of narcotics, and one aluminium foil pouch containing erimin 5 pills.
The total street value of the seized drugs was RM2,936, he said.
Comm Mohd Yusri said the suspect, who tested positive for methamphetamine, has prior drug and criminal offences on his record.
He added that the suspect has been remanded for seven days to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
“Following his arrest, we raided the entertainment outlet and detained 152 people.
“Urine tests found 25 of them – 14 local men and 11 Vietnamese women, aged between 21 and 41 – positive for drugs including ketamine, methamphetamine and benzo.
"Six Vietnamese women were arrested on suspicion of working as GROs at the outlet without any valid work permit.
“Another person believed to be the caretaker and (foreigners' employer) was also arrested,” he said.
According to Comm Mohd Yusri, drug dealing at the outlet has been going on for the last three months.
He thanked the community for its cooperation with enforcement agencies in the successful operation, and urged the public to continue channelling information on drug activities to the police.
