DLP now in 2,501 schools

THE number of schools involved in the Dual Language Programme (DLP) has swelled to 2,501 from just 377 in 2016, says Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.

These included boarding schools, national schools, vernacular schools and even religious schools, she said.

“There has been a significant increase in the number of DLP schools since 2016 when there were 377 schools.”

This increased in 2017 (1,190), 2018 (1,342), 2019 (1,357), 2020 (2,259), 2021 (2,298), 2022 (2,366) and 2024 (2,501), she said this in a written reply to Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (BN-Ayer Hitam).

Dr Wee had asked on the number of schools participating in the DLP between 2016 and 2023.

He also asked if the guidelines of the DLP programme for schools would be maintained.

To this, the minister affirmed that the guidelines would be kept and further improved.
